The Tirimbina Biological Reserve is key to the entire concept of the Centro Neotrópico SarapiquíS.
The 330 hectare Tirimbina Biological Reserve is one of the last remaining stands of mid-elevation, premontane rainforest in northeastern Costa Rica. Tirimbina has been the site of numerous biological research projects and serves as a living laboratory for study, as well as an accessible day trip for the guests.
An island with lush tropical vegetation lies in the middle of the great Sarapiquí River and is part of the Reserve. The island trails offer an easily navigated introduction to a tropical forest ecosystem through a selfguided tour.
A 260 m long suspension bridge connects CNS to the Tirimbina Reserve. Several trails wind through the Reserve, accessing areas of high interest for wildlife watching or viewing highlights of rainforest biodiversity. Because it is a protected area, they are designed to allow the minimum impact possible on delicate ecosystems.
The greater portion of the life of a rainforest thrives in the forest canopy. Tirimbina visitors experience a view of the richness of treetop flora and fauna from a suspended canopy walkway spanning one of the many stream valleys in the Reserve.
The Tirimbina Biological Reserve is a place for illumination of some of the mysterious complexities of the rainforest and for experiencing the innate response of humans to wildlife and natural beauty.
